Showered with love…
It’s been awhile since my last post I know…lots has been going on. We attended some classes at the hospital last month…Childlbirth Prep and Newborn Parenting. I was kinda reluctant to take the Childbirth Prep class (not because the class was from 9 to 5 on a Saturday!) but because my OB warned me about how graphic the videos that they show can get. To my surprise the hours just flew by and I prepared myself for the worst with the videos so after watching 4 or 5 births it didn’t really scare me that much. Of course watching someone give birth on video is much different than actually experiencing it! Overall both classes were very informative and it was nice to be surrounded by a lot of other couples due around the same time as us. Some of the stuff that was covered is what I’ve already ready in the many pregnancy and parenting books that I have but I’m still glad we signed up for them because the hubby got to hear all of it too (since he hasn’t really read the books…).
We also had our baby shower about 2 weeks ago. Thank you to my fabulous girlfriends, favorite cowsin and amazing parents for planning and hosting! I’ve been to my fair share of baby showers before but that day I couldn’t believe that this time the shower was for us. Opening all the pink, girly gifts felt so surreal! But it was a good feeling to know that in just a couple more months all of it will be used for our baby girl! Thanks so much to all who attended! We feel truly blessed to have so many wonderful friends and a caring, supportive family during this special time for us. Below are a few pics from the party…Shower #2 (from the hubby’s side) is in a week and a half!
On top of all that we also did our hospital tour. The place seemed pretty nice being a hospital and all (I absolutely hate being in hospitals…it always has a funky smell to me!) and all the workers were friendly and helpful. It’s nice to know that everyone will get their own private room and to see where everything is. Some rooms even have jacuzzi’s! But it is on a first come basis. And I heard that on your last day there they treat you with a celebratory dinner (a friend of mine who delivered there said it was a yummy steak feast!).
Then along came Thanksgiving and all the cooking, eating and shopping that comes with it. We did finish buying more than half of our presents! Of course we always leave the last few (hard to buy for) till right before Christmas so we still usually end up dealing with last minute shopping anyway =P.
And then right after Thanksgiving I caught a really nasty cold…that I still have today (although I’m feeling a little better now). I went to my doc yesterday just to make sure it wasn’t some other type of flu that I haven’t been vaccinated for or some kind of infection. She said it didn’t look like it and that it was just your plain ol’ cold. That was a relief but let me tell you that I was absolutely miserable the past two days because I couldn’t really take anything. I had the hardest time falling asleep because I was so congested and couldn’t breathe through my nose. I had muscle aches on top of the leg cramps that I’ve been having due to the pregnancy. And it was harder for me to breathe not only because of my stuffed up nose but because my belly has been getting so big and moving upward close to my chest AND I had heartburn! Yes…being sick while pregnant is no fun at all! Oh speaking of my health and all…I forgot to mention that I failed my 1-hour glucose test last month and recently had to take the 3-hour glucose test. That was no fun either. I had to fast for 12 hours and then go to the lab at 7AM to get my blood drawn, then drink this super sweet, flat orange soda tasting drink and then get my blood drawn every hour after that for 3 hours. Waiting around in a hospital for 3 hours with nothing to do sucks! Thankfully the hubby came along with me to keep me company. I felt like a human pin cushion afterwards. They poked me a total of 5 times (one more than I was suppose to because the lady couldn’t get blood out one time…and that one hurt like a biatch!). I swear my arms looked like they belong to a druggie or something. Anyway…I just got the results in earlier this week and the good news is that it came back normal and I do not have gestational diabetes!
So that’s pretty much what has been going on the past month. Baby Brooklynn (we did decide on calling her Brooklynn Reese) has just been kicking/moving so much lately. Some times it startles me or tickles me but it always comforts me that she is being so active in my belly. Sometimes I’ll just stare at my stomach and wait for a jiggle or a wave-like motion. At times I think I can feel her head and even her limbs! Only about 8 more weeks to go!!!
